Classic Ann Landers
On 14th November, I learned about "Classic Ann Landers". First, we gave the handout from the teacher and assigned us to read letters that someone sent to Ann Landers. After we finished read the handout we continues did the activities.
Next, we read each letter and its response again and questions. After we finished, the teacher gave corrective feedback together.
1. Why did Careful Louisiana write the letter to Ann Landers?
- To ask to warn the readers to be cautions anytime a stranger has been in their homes.
2. What is Ann Lander's advice?
- She advises the writer to lock the doors and windows.
3. What is Granada Hill's problem?
- He doesn't want his friends to say "Get well soon" to her wife. It hurts to hear that word because everyone knows that his wife will die.
4. Why did he write the letter to Ann Lander?
- Because he wants to Ann Landers help him for this problem.
5. What is Ann Lander's advice for him?
- She has no idea. But she advises him to "Play the game" because the phrase is intended to be comforting.
6. What is Annoyed in Texas's problem?
- Her problem is her ex-husband's new wife is constantly overstepping her bounds with her children so she feels angry about this.
7. Why did she write the letter to Ann Landers?
- Because, she needs the advice to deal with her problem.
8. What is Ann Landers advice to her?
- She advises her to don't complete with her second wife, stay in the background, and refrain from making any critical remarks.
Next, the teacher ask to make a group and write the responses. So, we had represents of each group to tell the class and we had quiz 2 test for 50 minutes.
In this class, I think summarizing the story was so difficult for me. But the teacher helps us by giving the feedback and recommend.
I used Reading faster, scanning, skimming, and reading for detail to do the exercises.

Paragraph reading strategies "Book and Novels"
On Monday 7th November, We learned the paragraph reading strategies 'Book and novels." The teacher gave us the handout and assigned us to do an exercise 2.
After that, the teacher assigned us to read and answer the question.
1. Did Princess Diana have a happy marriage life?
- No, she didn't. she trapped in a loveless marriage, who has suffered from chronic illness and loneliness.
2. What are the four aspects of the UK and USA mentioned in the book?
- People, Geography, History, and institutions.
3. Who won the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize? For what aspects?
- Aung San Suu Kyi for her heroic efforts on behalf of democracy in Burma.
4. What is included in the book "A Lie for God : Mother Teresa Treasury?
- It includes a brief biography, conversation with Mother Teresa herself, Heart of joy, Loving Jesus, and Suffering into Joy.
We finished activity "Secret of the Christmas Box" and we answer the question in the sheet.
I used the skimming, scanning and reading faster to read. And scanning for finding the answers was easy for me.
After that, the teacher assigned us to read and answer the question.

On Monday 31st October, We started the class about "Extensive reading" that continues from last week ago and new reason learning the new topic "Reading faster".
We sent the homework before starting the class.
The teacher explained about "fluency is more important than accuracy." She also taught us by opening the Cambridge Dictionary to tell us with some vocabularies on the projector.
I given the sheets by the teacher. Its about "Read faster". We spoke in the class about "How do you improve your speaking, listening, and writing skills?". and "How do you read in English?.
She also assigned us to think about "What are obstacles to faster reading?.
We read the passage from the activity "Hints for reading practice.". We read so quickly and answered the question to the teacher.
In this class, I found that this lesson was a bit easy and It was contained by easy vocabularies.

Next, I did pre-reading 2. It was about how useful is reading alone in developing the language skills?. The teacher also searched the words and we repeat the sound.
Extensive : covering a large area,having a great range.
Develop : to grow or change into more advanced,larger,or stronger from.
Development : the process in which someone or something grows or changes and becomes more advanced.
Developing : A developing country or area of the world is poorer and has less advanced industries, especially in Africa, Latin America, or Asia
After that, we learned about " research". Me and my friends wrote the words the words on the whiteboard and she told us to read the topic "simply read" and write the summaries of each paragraphs.
Summarizing of each paragraphs was very difficult for me because I didn't get this point enough. But I solve this problem by talk with my friends about this topic and I also found that the comprehension exercise was easy for me.
I used the previewing, finding references, and making inferences for reading the text in this class.

I didn't read every words in exercise in the handout but I just focus on the important points and keywords on this exercise.
By this activity, I did a lot of exercises :
Exercise 3 - The telephone listings.
Exercise 4 - The house advertisements
Exercise 5 - The job advertisement.
Exercise 6 - The flight and airfare schedules.
Exercise 7 - The TV programs.
Exercise 8 - The news story.
Exercise 9 - The biography.
About this class, Scanning skill is very easy for me because I like to read fast and scanning the word I had never knew it before. I used scanning skill to do the exercise and learn.

Then, Me and my friends were talked about "What products, celebrities, and food from other countries do you like?"
Next, I did the vocabulary from focus 1 and learned grammar by using "like" and "such as"
After that, we read the text "Expat in Asia". Before that I did some predicting.
1. Why did Michael come to Asia?
- Some friend recommenced it to me.
2. Why does Michael choose to stay in Taiwan?
- He enjoys his life here and he feels like it in his new home.
3. What is one of Taiwan's greatest strengths?
- The people never give up and trying to make their lives better.
After I discussed with my friends about this story we did the referring activity. I think the predicting activity was easy for me.
I found a lot of difficult words but I solve it by searching the word in dictionary and asking my friends.
I used the guessing the meaning of words, finding references, and predicting for reading the text form this class.

Fashion continues and West meets East

- I think this rule is not good for student because they use their abilities to learn not just the hair or necessary especially in Thailand.
Next, we began to learn about the new lesson "West meets East". It's was about the culture of Asian and American. She started to talk about something on the projector such as martial arts, McDonald's, Happy Meals,etc.
She told us to fine the definitions of these words on the whiteboard and assigned the work to us by doing pre-reading 1,2
In this class I founds many difficult words that I had never seen before but I tried to fine the meaning in the online dictionary and asked my friends about these words.
I used the skimming, scanning, and guessing the meaning the words in this class for this week.

Fashion
On 12th Monday, we learn about "fashion". The teacher taught and gave the worksheet to us and I read the information and description of six articles in it.
I did pre-reading about fashion such as fishnet stockings, high heels, halter top, etc. And next I used skimming skill to read about "Fashion? Confusion" and then summarized each paragraphs and write it on the whiteboard.
I did the activity about vocabulary by looking at the picture and solve the program about hair style.
After that, she told us to discuss about the style our my favorite superstar with classmate. I thought that pre-reading was easy for me because it easy to get and I think summarizing of each paragraph was very difficult but I tried to solve it by discussing with my friends.

On 5th Monday, the teacher continue taught us about today's technology. First, The teacher told us to write about the internet application that we use to improve our English skills on the whiteboard and she told me to write about "What are advantages and disadvantages of using the internet?" and explaine it to your friends.
After that she gave the handout to us. It was about "Researchers worry as teens grow up online". And summarized it.
I did activities in the handout.
First : Marking each statement Researchers's opinion and reading the detail to find the answers.
Second : Finding the word that matching with the meaning. Used guessing the meaning to find the answers.
Third : matching each shorthand term with its meaning.
And we had a Quiz 1 for testing.
I think the writing the paraphrase was easy because I like to swap the words and check its grammar and structures.
I think that the skimming was difficult because I didn't attention and concentrate about it at all. I solve this problem by asking the teacher and discussing with my friends
In this class I used the skimming, scanning, previewing, and reading for detail for reading.

1.How much time spent online to you think is too much? Why?
- I think the time to spent online to me are 4 hours. Because it will cause my health to be bad in the future.
2.Do you think that everything can be communicated by e-mail? or are some things very said face-to-face? What examples can you give?
- I think communicating in network can't catch enough feeling. Face to face is better way to socialize together because we can see to each other.
3.Would it bigger you if people must to you online about their age or appearance? Why it why not?
- No, it wouldn't. I don't care or worry about it.

After that, We read profcasts story. Podcast is a radio program that is stored in a digital from that you can download from the internet and play on a computer or on a MP3 player. The teacher told us to make a group of 4 and discuss about this story. Next, We did some activities in the handout. we read about music news and views CD and vinyl. I used the skimming skill for read the story. It make me read very fast for reading and making comprehension.
In this class, I found a lot of difficult words. But I tried to solve this problem by using an internet and fine them on Cambridge online dictionary and asking my friend.
I used previewing, skimming, scanning, and finding references skill for reading.

Natural Disaster (Continue)
On 28th Sunday, we had made up the class so we were continued studying about " Natural Disaster " from the third week.
First, we studied by the handout. The teacher told us to read news story about "Japan Earthquake : Tsunami hits north-east" and explain about this news for my friends. And then we was answer the question in the handout. We had using Scanning for answer The question.
After that The teacher told us to write unfamiliar words and find them on English Dictionary. So I used "www.cambridgeenglish.org/" to search these words for this time.
There are many words I had search for example :
- coolant (n.)/ˈkuː.lənt/
a specially prepared liquid that is used to stop a machine from getting too hot while it is operating
- radioactive (adj.)/ˌreɪ.di.əʊˈæk.tɪv/
having or producing the energy that comes from the breaking up of atoms
- extended (adj.) /ɪkˈsten.dɪd/
long or longer than usual
- magnitude (n.) /ˈmæɡ.nɪ.tʃuːd/
the large size or importance of something
- devastated (adj.)/ˈdev.ə.steɪ.tɪd/
completely destroyed.
Next, We are going to read “California fires: Evacuation orders given to 13,000 people” news The teacher explained us about how to write the headline in full sentence so I used the skimming and scanning to read for comprehended the story.
About this class I had found a lot of difficult words so I started search these words by using online dictionary from my smartphone. I think this is another good way for learning English by technology and to day I used Previewing, Skimming, Scanning, and Finding references to read for this class.

Natural Disaster
Welcome and We are going to learn about Natural disaster! This class we began " The Natural Disaster" After we prepared to learn already Dr.Usa was opened The power point presentation video about Tsunami in japan.

Introduction and A healthy diet?
This is a second period that I was studying English Reading Strategy. First The teacher started this class by checking our blogs that we done and send to her. After she had finished check our work she told us to work in group of four for discussing about the pictures that we brought to the class.We all looked at power point presentation to do The exercises about Weekly Healthy Diet Planner and she told us to present our plan to the class. On 1st August 2016, It's the first day that I'm being a sophomore completely and I'm very excited to learn the first course. The first course that we met is 'English Reading Strategies' By Teacher Usa Noytim.
At first, Teacher Usa was gives me 'The course outline' and she told us the rules that we have to do in this class by the following :
- Be punctual
- pay attention to the lesson
- Do not use cell phone in the classroom
- Do not cheat.
- Follow dress code policy
- Listen while others are speaking or sharing.
